How-To Guides:

How to Care for Your Suit

Owning a fursuit is an incredible experience, and ensuring its lasting beauty and durability requires proper care. This comprehensive guide is designed to equip you with the knowledge and techniques needed to maintain your fursuit in its prime condition. By following these guidelines, you can enjoy your fursuit for countless adventures while preserving its enchanting appeal.

STORAGE

Store your fursuit in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Use a padded hanger or a specially designed fursuit stand to help maintain its shape.

CLEANING

Spot clean stains with a damp cloth and mild soap. Always test the soap on an inconspicuous area first. Use a lint roller or brush to remove surface dirt and debris. Avoid submerging your fursuit in water unless it’s specifically designed to be waterproof.

BRUSHING

Regularly brush your fursuit using a soft-bristle brush to keep the fur looking fresh and fluffy. Brush gently in the direction of the fur’s natural lay to avoid damaging the fibers.

WASHING

Follow the care instructions provided by the fursuit maker. Some suits may be machine-washable, while others may require hand washing.

Use a gentle, cold water cycle and a mild detergent specifically designed for delicate fabrics. Ensure all zippers, Velcro, and other fasteners are closed to prevent snagging.

DRYING

If machine-washing, use a low or no-heat setting to prevent damage to the fur and materials. Fur is often made of acrylic and melts in high heat. We strongly advise you to air-dry your suit.

Never wring out or twist the suit to remove excess water. Instead, gently press with a towel. Allow your fursuit to air dry on a clean surface.

Avoid using heat sources like hairdryers or radiators, as they can damage the fur.

MAINTENANCE

Regularly check for loose seams, buttons, jammed zippers, or other elements that may need repair. If you notice any damage, contact your fursuit maker or a professional repair service for assistance.

ODOR CONTROL

To prevent odors, consider using odor-absorbing products such as charcoal bags or silica gel packets in your storage area.

Avoid wearing your fursuit for extended periods in hot and sweaty conditions, as this can lead to unpleasant odors.

TRAVELING

If you need to transport your fursuit, use a breathable garment bag or a dedicated fursuit bag to protect it.

Place the fursuit in the bag gently to avoid compressing the fur.

PAW & FOOTPAD CARE

Keep paw pads clean by wiping them with a damp cloth. For foam pads, use a fabric-safe cleaner. Footpaws can be cleaned similarly, but avoid getting the interior foam padding wet.

PREVENTATIVE MEASURES

Set clear rules for others who handle your fursuit, including children, to avoid accidental damage. Consider wearing a layer of clothing underneath the fursuit to prevent direct contact with sweat and oils.

Remember, your fursuit may have unique care instructions depending on the methods and accessories you have selected, so always follow the guidelines provided with your suit. With proper care, your fursuit will continue to bring joy and captivate for years to come!
